Author joins students to celebrate World Book Day

Students were excited to meet author, Tom Palmer, as part of our World Book Day celebrations. Tom, whose books include Armistice Runner, D-Day and the popular Football Academy series, had lunch in the library with the winners of the World Book Day Quest competition. He also signed copies of his books for them. The author then ran sessions in the hall for Year 8 students where they could ask him questions about his writing. He told them about how he became an author, how much money he makes from this and how he goes about researching his books. Students really enjoyed being able to talk to the author and picked up some great tips for writing their own books.

Tom also took a tour of the school to judge our tutor group competition where students had to decorate their tutor room doors as book covers. There were some fantastic designs and Tom was very impressed with students’ creative talents. The winning tutor groups were VAN, SCY and SWN. The author’s busy day finished with a quiz and penalty shootout in the hall.

A big thank you to Tom for taking part in so many World Book Day activities and for inspiring students to write their own fiction.
