Ferodo careers trip

Celebrating 125 years at Ferodo

We were delighted to attend a special event to commemorate 125 years’ of manufacturing at the Ferodo plant in Chapel. A group of Year 11 students with a keen interest in engineering were invited to the Open Day where they met with staff to learn about their current roles and career progression within the company. They also attended a presentation about the history of Ferodo, which is now part of global business Tenneco, learning how it all began in 1902 and the thousands of local people it has employed over the years. The group were then taken on a full tour of the plant to find out more about engineering, including the special machinery used to manufacture brake pads which are used in automotive products all over the world.

The students enjoyed the day and all agreed that they now know a lot more about engineering and manufacturing careers. This will help them to make their final decisions about courses, apprenticeships and training at post-16. Feedback from the group about their favourite part of the open day included:

“The videos on how they make the brake pads.”

“The robots in the new building.”

“The Jaguar and Range Rover area”

“The museum and the new line of the machinery”

A big thank you to the team at Tenneco who made our students feel so welcome and spent lots of time explaining and answering their questions. The event has given the group a brilliant insight into the company’s work and the opportunities available in engineering and manufacturing.
