From the sea to our plates

Our year 10 Hospitality and Catering students have been learning all about preparing and cooking seafood, with a big focus on where this fish comes from and its journey from the sea to our plates. As part of this topic, two groups visited a local family fishmonger in Buxton, RG Morris, to see what happens behind the scenes when seafood is brought in fresh from the market.

The students observed as different types of fish were filleted, stored and portioned for distribution at the warehouse. They learnt how this is transported to some of our lovely local restaurants and pubs as well as the RG Morris deli counter in Buxton.

Our year 10s were then excited to visit the fabulous restaurant, Go Fish, where they had the opportunity to taste some of the freshly caught seafood, with many students sampling varieties they had not tried before. They tucked into a delicious selection of prawns, calamari, Thai fish curry and traditional battered cod and chips.

This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about where food comes from as well as the importance of seasonality and sustainability. A big thank you to RG Morris fishmongers for hosting both groups and treating them to a seafood feast.

Mrs Wicks, our Hospitality and Catering teacher, said:

“This was a great trip for students to see how fish goes from the sea to the plate. The groups represented the school beautifully and really enjoyed tasting some new foods.”
