It is an annual tradition at Chapel High for all students to attend a special assembly to mark Remembrance Day. This occasion provides an opportunity for the whole school to learn about key people, important moments and real-life stories from previous wars. Our Head of History, Mr Bushaway, led the assembly and gave students a compelling insight into why we take the time to reflect and remember each year.
Our Music and Drama students supported the event with some very powerful performances. Year 10 GCSE Drama students enacted the poem 'War Photographer' by Carol Ann Duffy, a deeply moving description of the experiences and responsibilities of war photographers. GCSE Music students, Evie, Grace, Sophie and Esme, performed a beautiful rendition of Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters', accompanied by Ms Wood on the piano. Their captivating and sombre pieces really captured the essence of the assembly and left the audience in awe. The assembly ended with ‘The Last Post’ and a minute’s silence. Our students demonstrated impeccable behaviour, maturity and respect throughout.
On Sunday 9th November our Headteacher, Mr Raynor, accompanied Chapel High students to represent the school at the cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. We are so proud to be part of a community that takes such pride in this important occasion. Mr Raynor said:
“This was a well-attended event, and it was really pleasing to see so many of our students representing the different organisations in the local community.”
